New Lada Niva for sale

Lada Niva Cossack 4x4
.
Lada Niva Cossack 1986 project. This car has been stored by the previous owner in a dry garage since 1993 (according too dvla records on tax) So it has...>
no mot or tax and will need towing away. It has approx 47000 miles on the clock and has had 4 previous owners the last since 1988. After being stored for so long the front brakes are siezed, i have removed the pads so it can be pushed, the handbrake still works. Ive got the car running but at present its fuel is supplied from a 1 gallon can in engine bay as the tank needs draining of old petrol. Ive had many ladas and i can honestly say that the engine runs the best ive had. the gearbox seems good but i have only drove on my drive the transfer box also functions as it should. The clutch is also good. I brought this too do up to original condition, no lifts or offroading just a genuine classic Niva, as i believe this too be unique and totally original. Ive never seen the cossack seat covers that come with it and the bullbars are different, is it one of the first cossacks???? Originally i believe this car would of been a 4 speed going by the sticker on the center consol, but a 5 speed has been fitted. it comes with its original starmag alloys and 4x suzuki rims as pictured-some hold air some have no tyres on (pictured) 4 on car hold air. This is a very old niva and as such has no rear seat belts no rear wiper has ever been fiited and i think this adds too its charm. The body work is good with only one small hole in front nearside wing, the underside needs a wire brush with no obvious signs of welding being done or needed- there is surface rust underneath as too be expected and a few scabs on body as pictures but all in all its good, the tailgate is in very good condition. The paint is repairable in my eyes but please dont expect it too be mint it is a 26 year old car.. I have not fully inspected this car and after standing for so long i would expect too find some lights not working etc and the heater squeels until warmed up so please dont come and pick flys-this is a project car and will take some work too get back on the road. Im only selling as ive recently obtained a new project and i dont want this one too wait for my attention out in the rain. You are bidding too buy not come and have a look. Viewing can be arranged. Please no overseas bidders. Anyone with less than a feedback score of 10 dont bid unless you contact me first. Winner too within 24 hr of auction end Pickup of car within 7 days of auction end. The car is very popular in its home country. It is also popular in Canada (though withdrawn from sale in 1998), South America, Europe, and other regions where the terrain requires a robust and tough car for a reasonable price. In Australia, popularity is limited as the vehicle is manufactured for a very different climate and as such items such as air conditioning were omitted from the specifications, limiting its appeal. The car was also called the Lada Sport in Iceland. It was one of the first mass production off-road vehicles to feature a unibody architecture, independent front suspension and coil suspension, and is a predecessor to current crossover SUVs which nearly all follow this format. Before it was introduced to the UK, it was referred to by some in the motoring press as the 'Russian Range Rover'. Contents 1 History 1.1 Cossack 1.2 VAZ-2122 Reka 2 Uses of the Niva 3 Bognor Diva 4 GM-AvtoVAZ Chevrolet Niva 5 Reference list 6 External links [edit] History The Niva (2121) was Lada's (VAZ/AvtoVAZ) first non-Fiat based model. Much of its mechanicals are carried over from the Fiat based Lada models, though the body, four-wheel drive system, and front suspension were designed by Lada. Production began in 1977 and continues today (as of 2010) with only minor changes to the engine, rear hatch design, and interior trim levels. In basic form, the Niva has a carbureted 1.6-litre overhead cam four-cylinder petrol engine producing 54 kW (72 hp) and 126 N·m (93 ft·lbf), a four- or five-speed manual transmission, and full-time four-wheel drive. The four-wheel drive system employs three differentials (centre, front and rear), similar to manual-transmission Toyota FJ Cruisers. There are no locking hubs. The transfer case involves an high/low range selector lever and a central differential lock lever. Low range can be selected with the centre differential locked or unlocked. The original Niva has a maximum speed of around 130 km/h (80 mph), and can cruise at 90 km/h (56 mph) while consuming petrol at 8.25 L/100 km (34.2 mpg-imp; 28.5 mpg-US). Its towing capacity is rated for up to 860 kg (1900 lb). Lada Niva T3 Rally Lada Niva T3 Rally in 2006 A 1.7-litre petrol engine was introduced later in production, as was single-point fuel injection supplied initially by General Motors. Around this time the rear hatch was revised to have a lower opening. Multi-point fuel injection designed by Bosch is used currently since 2004. In some markets a 1.9L Peugeot diesel powered Niva was sold. Coil springs are located at each of the four wheels, and suspension is independent in front, whereas the rear axle is a 5 link live-type, with ratios between 3.90 and 4.30 depending on the model and market. Ground clearance is good at 235 mm (9.25 in) and water 510 mm (20 in) deep can be negotiated. The brakes (disc front, drum rear) are servo-assisted dual-circuit style and the clutch is hydraulic. The turning circle, at 36.25' is adequate, while the centre of gravity is exceptional. Cargo space is 0.48 m³ (17 ft³), or 1.33 m³ (47 ft³) with the rear seats folded down. A spare tyre is located in the engine bay under the bonnet, and as with all Ladas, a 21 piece toolkit is also supplied for do-it-yourself roadside repairs. The latter feature is considered a useful and practical feature by off-road fans. [edit] Cossack During the 1980s local Lada importers in various markets made their own upgrades to help compete with more modern SUVs. In the UK the Cossack model featured large body decals, roof rails, running boards, 15" alloy wheels, and on some versions a sunroof, steel bullbars, spotlights, a rear-mounted spare tyre and semi-bucket seats. Other markets' importers made similar upgrades and many were also called Cossack. In 1995, Lada UK introduced a face-lifted version of the Niva Cossack and renamed the basic model as the Hussar. Whereas the Hussar had the original 1977 trim, the new UK Cossack featured a new Rover-designed grille and other body kit items, and gained soft nudge-bars at the front in deference to public opinion against bullbars. Both models received the same new 1.7-litre engine and a new deeper tailgate which extended the rear opening to the level of the bumper - a vast improvement over the original model's high lip. Official Niva imports to the UK ceased in 1997 due to the importers having difficulty in sourcing the GM fuel injection unit required to satisfy ever-tightening UK emissions regulations. There were several attempts to reintroduce Ladas back into the UK. In May 2010, the basic Niva became available again, through an independent importer. Aimed largely at the agricultural market, three models were made available (all LHD), the 3-door 4-seat hatchback at £10,000, a 2-seat commercial van, £8000 and a 2-door, 4-seat pickup for £12,000. All meet the current UK Vehicle Certification Agency standards. The only engine available is the 1.7 litre petrol, but this can be provided with or without a LPG conversion[2]. [edit] VAZ-2122 Reka In 1974, when VAZ 2121 development was almost finished, the engineers from Tolyatti began working on an amphibian off-roader, VAZ 2122 'Reka' ('River') based on VAZ-2121 'Niva' underpinnings. It was intended to be sold to the Soviet Ministry of Defence. Six evolutions of prototypes were built, and much development work was done. The car was tested in an experimental military unit, on the proving grounds of the Ministry of Defence, and in the Turkmenistan Karakum Desert. VAZ-2122 received very positive feedback, by 1987 VAZ had finished all development work, and the car was ready for production. However, at the end of the 1980s, the Ministry of Defence did not have the financial resources necessary for large-scale purchases of the VAZ-2122. As a result, it was never put into mass production. [edit] Uses of the Niva In Russia and Europe the Niva has been used as an ambulance, a military vehicle, and by various police forces (eg Czech Republic) and utility companies (eg Manx Electricity Board). The official pace car of the Budapest-Bamako is a refurbished 1988 Lada Niva Transmanche-Link, the commercial consortium that built the Channel Tunnel between England and France, used a fleet of 45 Nivas to aid in the enormous project. Each Niva accumulated in excess of 70,000 kilometres (43,000 mi) off-road during its employment, and after construction had been completed in 1993, the fleet was sold off to a local dealer. In Brazil, the Niva was the best-selling off-road vehicle during the early 1990s. In fact, the Niva was so cheap that even with the 85% importation value tax, it was less expensive than Brazilian cars such as the Envemo or Gurgel. It sold so much more than the Gurgel Carajás, that Gurgel discontinued production in January 1991. The Niva was the first imported 4X4 in the Brazilian market, following then-Brazilian president Fernando Collor's decision to permit the importation of foreign vehicles in 1990. In the Brazilian market, a used 1991 Niva in good condition costs about R$6,000. Competition and higher importation value taxes forced the Niva to be retired from the Brazilian market. Even so, thousands of Nivas remain in use in Brazil. Nivas have been driven on land, up mountains, through mud, and underwater. In 2008, in a "Communist Cars" special of Top Gear, Jeremy Clarkson stated that the drive was so smooth that he was once able to use the cigarette lighter to light a cigarette while driving 60 km/h offroad . He then added with irony that he could not show the viewer this was possible as they "don't live in a free country". Both he and James May appeared to fall for the Niva, seconds before the car got stuck in a ditch. It was towed out by a 'capitalist' Land Rover, much to annoyance of Clarkson. The presenters almost decided that the Soviets did in fact make a good car, until it stalled on a road and wouldn't start. [edit] Bognor Diva Car manufacturer Bognor in Uruguay assembled a version, the Bognor Diva released in 2004. [edit] GM-AvtoVAZ Chevrolet Niva GM-AvtoVAZ Chevrolet Niva (2004-2009 version) GM-AvtoVAZ, a joint venture between AvtoVAZ and General Motors, produces the Chevrolet Niva. The car was previously known as the VAZ-2123 in the design stage. It features an updated body and 1.7-litre gasoline engine with fuel injection. Although the body and the interiors are new, it is still based on the old VAZ 2121 engine, transmission and most mechanicals. Its off-road ability is exemplary compared with many modern budget SUVs, having been designed for tough tundra territory. An export version with reinforced hull, 1.8-litre Opel Ecotec Family 1 gasoline engine and Aisin four-wheel drive has been under consideration since 2003. Although most of the engineering work has been completed, the release has been constantly postponed. Although the GM-AvtoVAZ considered building a new engine plant for the local production of Ecotecs, in July 2005 it was announced that the project was cancelled, along with plans for the long-anticipated "export" Niva. However, the project was revived in Fall 2006 and the "Niva FAM1" was introduced as a new trim level for the 2007 model year. The price was much higher than the standard trim, that made the project not as successful and led it to be discontinued in April 2008. Another reason was the ceasing of Ecotec engine production at the Hungarian plant.[3] In 2009 the model got a minor update, featuring a slight restyling, done by Bertone studio and some minor-changes.[4] [edit] Reference list ^ http://www.aziaavto.kz/hist_eng.htm ^ http://www.fwi.co.uk/Articles/2010/07/18/122285/Lada-Niva-back-on-sale-in-UK.htm Farmers Weekly] ^ Автор: Сергей (Кировск (Ленингр.обл.)). It's petrol only and left-hand drive, but don't let that put you off, says David Cousins The Soviet Union may have collapsed, the Berlin Wall toppled and the Iron Curtain come apart at the seams, but the Lada Niva is one product of communism that is obviously made of tougher stuff. Despite having disappeared from the UK price lists in 1996 and pronounced dead, it's bounced back. The man responsible for its return is Mark Key, a London-based businessman who cut his commercial teeth by importing vehicles that weren't available in the UK. He noticed there were plenty of new Nivas buzzing around in Alpine ski resorts and wondered why they weren't available in the UK. "Lada stopped bringing Nivas into the UK in 1996 because they couldn't get right-hand-drive models any more and the carburettor they were using didn't meet the emissions standards. But I felt that we were missing out in the UK on something that should be good value." Two months ago, Mr Key took over the UK import of Nivas and reckons there should be a steady demand from farmers and other rural dwellers who want something that's cheap, simple and capable. They now meet the emissions standards, but they're still left hand drive. There's a choice of models. The standard passenger 4x4 is £9995 on the road, but there's a VAT-exempt commercial version (no back seats and obscured rear windows) for £7995 and a 2-door, 4-seat pickup for £11,999. They have UK-spec speedos and headlights, he says, and meet all the current Vehicle Certification Agency standards. The current Niva is pretty much identical to the original one that used to be imported to the UK, although much of the electrics and mechanicals that used to be Russian made are now sourced from the US or Italy. Build quality has been improved too, says Mr Key. What's it like? Well let's just say that the Niva will take you straight back to the 1970s. Compared to a VW Tiguan or a Land Rover Freelander it looks positively ancient, with its Fiat-derived bodyshell and boxy shape. Yet it's not unattractive and looks tall and purposeful. There's no artistry about the controls - everything has that Morris Marina feel to it, with big buttons, long spindly stalks for indicators and big levers for gears, range changes and diff-lock. Don't want electric windows, electric mirrors, air-con, airbags or satnav? Good... it hasn't got them. Accommodation is mixed. The driving position is good and the seats excellent, but there's limited knee-room for rear-seat passengers and the boot is very short. Having a socking great (optional) lpg tank in the back probably doesn't help. Start the engine and instead of the usual diesel banging and spluttering you have a surprisingly quiet 1700cc petrol engine. There's no diesel option, though an lpg option halves the fuel cost and cuts the tax rate. Despite the old-fashioned looking gearstick, it slips into gear without protest and off you go. The next surprise is that it's quieter than you'd expect. The old Niva whined like a Springer waiting for its supper, but this one is pretty restrained. Things get more raucous as speed rises but even at 80mph you can still carry on a conversation. However, those giant coil springs, which allow the Niva to float over rutted farm tracks, mean there's a lot of leaning on the road. Corners and roundabouts can be taken briskly, but it's a bit like piloting a small boat on a windy day. Acceleration is, um, steady. Verdict If you want a vehicle that will mostly be used around the farm, this is ideal. It's cheap, simple, comfortable, easy to clean and laughs at rough terrain. The petrol engine and left hand drive may not be everyone's cup of tea but you'll certainly stand out from the crowd. Auto Express Car Reviews By Keith AdamsAugust 2010 Rating: NO, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. This really is a Lada Niva, and you can buy it new for less than £10,000! Although you would be forgiven for thinking it died years ago, Russia’s favourite 4x4 is still in production, and it’s being imported to the UK again for the first time since 1997.As you can see, it doesn’t look any different to when it went on sale in 1978. It comes only in left-hand drive, with a 1.7-litre petrol engine, but Niva Imports offers the car in dual-fuel form, so you can refill with LPG at 66p per litre. The interior is basic and not terribly comfortable, while there are three simple levers sprouting from the transmission tunnel to control low/high ratios, the diff lock and the five-speed box. Space is in short supply in the rear, and the LPG tank takes up most of the luggage bay. Yet despite these drawbacks, the Niva appeals with its old-fashioned honesty, plus its off-road ability. On the road, it’s a mixed bag – the engine is refined, but the steering is vague and low-geared, while the non-ABS brakes don’t exactly inspire confidence. Performance is leisurely, with 0-60mph in 17.5 seconds. But the car is accomplished in mud and gravel, and the short wheelbase, high ground clearance and torquey engine ensure only the roughest terrain will stop it. It may appeal to a few diehards or farmers but at £5000 I'd still have to think about it and say NO...Rubbish 30 years ago and it still is. What's next -the Polski Fiat? By Foxeye on 19 August, 2010, 9:06am MIssed a trick! If only them Russians thought it through and updated the car with a few superficial safety and comfort enhancements, offered it in correct hand drive, they might have been on to something! Engine, diesel, 1.6 from any of today's manufacturers. Air-bags for head and side impact. ABS ( I thought all cars must have ABS as standard), an electric power assisted steering, a bit of revision in the driving position and updated dash design. Then, you would have a very competitive package that people would want! By CyprusYid on 19 August, 2010, 12:17pm even at "a mere £10,000", i cant see it appealing to anyone, except some old nostalgics, who have come into a bit of money. not many people in the UK will be warm to its rustic charms, when for similar money you can get a good used defender. ontop of that petrol engines with LPG are still not considered a mainstream engine choice, over the usual TDI set up. lets not even mention depreciation either. look at the 2nd hand values of these and you will see what i mean. By nakiko on 19 August, 2010, 1:09pm Welcome back-to-basics transport! I welcome this news - the last 2 winters my family & I have been cut-off from our nearest road (half a mile away down an unmade track), and I've ripped the front valance and/or plastic sump guard off 2 hatchbacks already, but I cannot afford most of the vehicles which are up to the required job of basic off-road transport, because they are overloaded with expensive luxury (unnecessary) features, keeping the price stupidly high until they have at least 100,000 miles on the clock. The Lada's design IS basic, but if its mechanical simplicity means it is cheap and won't easily break off-road, I would seriously consder a new or nearly new one of these instead of a 10-previous-owner Defender. Likewise, the impending Dacia Duster (which may be a better bet than the Lada) WILL have a real, if small, target of people for whom it does all that is required. By CountryBoy on 19 August, 2010, 9:51pm That's a shame.... When I read the headline I was hoping for some skoda-esque type transformation of Lada but it looks like they are the same old company making the same old cars. I'm thinking of a cheap 4x4 myself, but the forthcoming Dacia Duster will be lightyears ahead of this. By gavsmit on 20 August, 2010, 7:04am Missing the point For £10,400 you get a brand new proper 4x4 that runs on lpg - farmers and keen off-roaders will want one, and quite a few others will too. How much will the Dacia Duster cost in comparison and how good will it be off-road? By biggsy24 on 23 August, 2010, 11:01am I purchased a new Niva via france in 2005 power, steering was an optional extra. I had it converted to LPG in this country and yes the 110litre tank was in the boot. The extra weight in the boot altered the handling slightly making it very neutral. I wrote it off in am accident in 2007. My replacement came again from France, this time power sterring was standard and i took the option of LPG fitted in France, much cheaper than here with the 60litre tank under the boot floor. The rear spings on that newer model are softer than before probably from the Chevy Niva. Both were bought from Alan Bird Car Sales and niether cost any thing like £10,000. Brilliant work-horses they took me all over Scotland in all weather even going non stop to Campbeltown on the 17th of January 2007 whe many roads were regarded as impassable, 40 miles of the journey with the dif lock on. Built for Siberia not Suburbia! By Torchy on 23 August, 2010, 5:39pm Quite right In response to biggsy24 - I'd seen videos of the Dacia Duster in action off road and it looked pretty competitive but its not going to be in the same league as something like a Defender. But my biggest mistake was believing the press hype surrounding the pricing of the Dacia Duster - everyone in the press is reporting a starting price of around £11K but I've just found a French brochure online which states a price of 14K Euros for a 2 wheel drive petrol base model and 22,390 Euros for the 4x4 diesel - not such a great deal now! By gavsmit on 29 August, 2010, 11:12am For anyone who knows what they're talking about and actually use these four wheel drive vehicles daily for their capability, unlike the majority of british drivers who seem more pre occupied with looks comfort and how many things you can electrically assist nowdays, these are without any doubt,THE best value for money in the world. They just keep going and going. It;s always the same story, those who have never driven or owned one are always the first to condemn them, keep up the good work people, it keeps the prices down for those of us who know and admire them! Perhaps if the manufacturers placed a prancing horse on the radiator instead of a lada badge, the Top Gear presenters and then of course everyone else would be drooling over them. By cropfield on 11 October, 2010, 2:47pm Consistantly styled alternative to usual "Girlie" mainstream options There's a lot of B***S***! written about vehicles and its usually by the press, however that's another story,...but, finally, here we have an option to the plastic bubbles and Barbie & Ken inspired 4 x 4s on sale, from the main stream suppliers of "Quality" vehicles. Look how they started and what's on option now! The Niva's looks are quaint, durable and adequate, but at least you can tell what they are, rather than go and squint at the plastic badge; they are serviceable by a fairly knowledgeable owners and admittedly basic, but they do the job, that is, to get you from A to B effectively and they do not cost the Earth to run and maintain. Everything on them can be improved, if you so wish, as it goes its a pity as yet they are not not right-hand drive and the LPG tank is not tucked imaginatively somewhere else, but those that need a rugged car Worldwide buy them and put them to in extreme use and here the Niva, can cut the mustard, you do not get much tougher than Siberia. This recession isn't going to magic itself away, and I think Russia is doing us a favour, producing these cars as they were originally with slight improvements. Image is everything boys, but you have to grow up a little to realise that, in my view the main producers are no longer producing vehicles that suit everybody's pocket or aspirations however lowly they may be. Just watch diesel prices rise over the winter and as far as fuel and power is concerned, people may have to start to consider LPG seriously. One for me please! Cheers By jack441 on 24 October, 2010, 2:19pm From Russia With love. Hello everyone. I'm russian. Niva is not so reliable vehicle as honda, but out of road it's the best i guess. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZws_ckFGno&feature=related Thank you. By astranaft on 7 November, 2010, 11:38am Niva Hi, I am the UK importer and would like to offer anyone the opportunity to make their own mind up about the incredibly capable and rugged Niva. If anyone fancies a test drive contact me via www.markkey.co.uk It might not be a Rolls Royce but it will get you out of the crap when it matters, for half the price of a Land Rover. The guy that got his cars for loads less than 10k must have had a used one. Take a look at the French/German dealers sites and do the currency conversion on a new Niva - my cars are less than theirs! A shame this article is based on comparisons to standard new passenger cars. Rugged ability is what you get with a Niva. All the best, Mark Niva Imports By markiparki on 3 December, 2010, 4:16pm Oh - and re: steering, low geared... the Niva now has power steering - Keith must have been thinking of the old model! Unsurprisingly, the UK importer is targeting the agricultural market, offering it as an alternative to a second-hand Land Rover Defender. With a two-year warranty and a whole load of old-school appeal, it has a certain charm – although its best days are long behind it.
